As a Ph.D student at the University of California, Irvine, Nizan Friedman has undergone extensive training developing sensor-based medical devices, more specifically developing wearable, minimally obtrusive devices for rehabilitation. He is proficient in embedded systems development, printed circuit board hardware development and microcontroller firmware development and has extensive knowledge in creating human interface devices for PC, MAC and Android operating systems. He also has several years of experience in working with and conducting research studies with stroke, and spinal cord injury population in the Sue and Gross Hall Center at the University of California, Irvine. Friedman has developed technologies featured on National Public Radio, on the cover of Interface Magazine, in Popular Mechanics magazine, TEDxUC Irvine Salon, and has received numerous accolades including the EMBC’s most innovative technology award, and the Prosperitas Ideas to Action award.
Friedman is also co-founder and president of Flint Rehabilitation Devices—a company focused around developing and productizing devices that aid in motor repair and human sensing. He serves as the Principal investigator on several SBIR awards from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Education.
The Entrepreneurship Seminar Series provides a real-world introduction to the theory and practice of entrepreneurship. Through a series of presentations by prestigious entrepreneurs and industry leaders, participants will explore the various organizational, strategic and financial challenges facing successful and unsuccessful entrepreneurs. Topics include start-up strategies, business idea evaluation, business plan writing, and introduction to venture capital.
