Brett Sanders Honored as Fellow of International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research

August 4, 2025 - Brett Sanders, UCI Chancellor’s Professor of civil and environmental engineering, has been recognized as a fellow of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR).
Founded in 1935, IAHR is a worldwide independent organization of engineers and water specialists working in hydro-environmental sciences and their practical applications. The IAHR fellow status honors long-standing members with outstanding contributions to hydro-environment engineering and research.
Professor Sanders has been active in IAHR for over 25 years, contributing especially to IAHR publications and conferences. He has made fundamental contributions to computational methods for shallow flows and the application of these methods in studies of water quality, flooding and sediment transport. In particular, he has pioneered innovative numerical methods for fine-resolution modeling of flooding at regional scales, which has yielded groundbreaking insights into the magnitude and inequality of risks and gives vulnerable communities a new capacity to more inclusively plan response measures.
